Tabs for Wheelchairs

The Kinsmen Tabs for Wheelchairs is the project developed by the Kinsmen Club of Sackville and explained beyond HRM. Our partners include Eastern Recyclers Association, Scotiabank, QE11 patient services and Lawtons Home Health Care, ALS Society and MS Society. We welcome new partners to grow this project.

Our goal is to help those less fortunate and in need of medical aides. By supporting your local depot and each Sackville Kinsmen Tabs for Wheelchairs you are supporting your community with your donated recyclables. Beverage containers, metals, auto batteries and tabs are examples of fund raising materials that provide money to repair wheel chairs, scooters and various medical aides.

The Kinsmen Club of Sackville is busy accepting second hand wheelchairs, walkers and all other medical equipment. We have all items appraised and determine necessary repairs in order to loan these items to those in need.  We also collect ink cartridges and used eye glasses, than exchange the cartridges for money. Trade the glasses with the Lions Club for their tab collection.

We have a Tabs collection project with schools and community members. The school classes compete for a year end Pizza Party. This is an excellent awareness for the young generations and helps get families participate in recycling for Tabs for Wheelchairs. The tab is the ice pick of a cane, while the additional aspects of donations complete the cane!

Kinsmen Community Bowl

As part of Kin Canada, our country’s’ largest all Canadian service organization, the Kinsmen Club of Sackville have been “Serving the Community’s Greatest Need” since 1961. Part of our mission is to bring communities together through affordable, family-oriented fundraising events in support of worthwhile charities.

One such event is our annual “Kinsmen Community Bowl” varsity football game held at Met Field in Lower Sackville. This is a great community event that raises funds for high school university entrance scholarships.

This event would not be possible without the support of community-minded businesses. Information is available for many sponsor participation opportunities for local businesses.

In between the exciting game action. Check out our half time show for a chance to catch a tee shirt, kick for a performance bike, catch the music entertainment, grab a tasty treat at our BBQ or pizza and enjoy a frosty cold beverage or a coffee. There's lots more too!

Sackville Kinsmen CF Funspiel..

The Kinsmen Club of Sackville's Annual FUNSPIEL FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS takes place at the Lakeshore Curling Club every February.  We can accommodate 24 teams of four for an evening of fun and games featuring whimsical twists on conventional curling format that keeps all participants having an evening to remember. Curlers collect pledges and funds raised will go directly to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in support of their research programs.

There is a buffet, an auction, prizes and lots of fun. Get your co workers, family and/or friends together to form a team. Many businesses sponsor teams entered by their employees in suport of this worthy cause.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a fatal, inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the respiratory and digestive systems. Since 1964, Kinsmen and Kinettes have raised more than $34 million in support of Foundation-funded cystic fibrosis research and treatment programs. This support has helped the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) to fund research discoveries that are making a difference in the lives of young Canadians living with CF.

For example, when the CCFF was established in 1960, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend kindergarten; today, half of all Canadians with CF are expected to live into their late 30s, and even beyond.  Although CF remains a devastating disease, this progress is a tremendously encouraging sign that, together, we are charting a course which may lead in the years ahead to a cure, or an effective control.

Come out and make a difference while having a great time!

About MS

An estimated 100,000 Canadians are living with multiple sclerosis (MS). While it is most often diagnosed in young adults, aged 15 to 40, we know that it can affect younger children and older adults. MS is unpredictable and can affect vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility. Its effects can be physical, emotional and financial. Currently there is no cure but each day, researchers are learning more about what causes MS and are zeroing in on ways to prevent it.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is here to help. No one needs to face MS alone. In communities across Canada, the MS Society provides information, support, educational events and other resources for people with MS and their families. Researchers funded by the MS Society are working to develop new and more effective treatments. Their ultimate goal is to find the cure for MS.
